For all the excitement that comes with a new season (including a brand new BetMGM Sportsbook at State Farm Stadium), it unfortunately also means injuries.
We will update this page weekly with everything you need to know about the Arizona Cardinals’ injury report.
Arizona Cardinals Week 1 Injury Report
Tight end Zach Ertz (calf)
Offensive guard Justin Pugh (neck)
The key injuries to monitor here are two starters Zach Ertz and Justin Pugh; both are listed as questionable as of Friday. The Cardinals’ depth chart is a bit of a question mark when it comes to the tight end position; Maxx Williams is returning from a torn ACL, and rookie Trey McBride has missed time dealing with back spasms.
Having Ertz return for Week 1 would be huge for the Cardinals, especially on an offense already missing DeAndre Hopkins due to suspension.
Did Not Practice
Defensive end J.J. Watt (calf)
Cornerback Trayvon Mullen (toe)
Wide receiver Rondale Moore (hamstring)
Cornerback Byron Murphy (Illness)
Offensive guard Cody Ford (ankle)
Center Rodney Hudson (rest)
The Cardinals have ruled out Moore, Ford, and Mullen. Watt and Murphy remain questionable as of Friday, which could be worrisome for the Cardinals.
First, the defensive depth chart is thin at all levels of the defense. Second, the Chiefs have one of the best offenses in the league, and going up against them shorthanded is not how you want to start your season.
On a positive note, offensive center Rodney Hudson was listed here with a designated rest day for the 33-year-old veteran and will be back to protect Kyler Murray.
Arizona Cardinals Injured Reserve Players
The Cards have a handful of players already on IR, mixed with players expected to return and those whose season is over before it started.
IR – Designated to Return
Quarterback Colt McCoy
Wide receiver Antoine Wesley
Safety Charles Washington
Offensive guard Marquis Hayes
Offensive tackle Joshua Miles
Safety Tae Daley
Cornerback Antonio Hamilton was placed on the reserve/non-football injury list after suffering burns on his feet and will miss the first four games of the season.
